Get plenty of packing materials, you will probably need more than you expect. Having a surplus will ensure packing proceeds without interruptions and we will be happy to refund your unused materials.
Use adequate tape to secure the base and top of the cartons to prevent them opening during the move. Packing tape is preferable to masking or gummed tape and is available from our packing section.
Each carton should have its contents clearly identified, if the content is fragile please indicate this in larger writing. Be specific in your descriptions; "soup and salad bowls" is better than "dishes" or "kitchen".
A simple record keeping system in a notebook can be very useful for quick reference. This can contain carton numbers as well as their contents. Keep the list in one location together with all of your labels, marking pens, tape, and other necessary supplies.
Having said that it is also very important not to under pack cartons too much. A half full carton can not be stacked and may lose shape when other cartons are put on top.
Light items can remain in drawers on local moves. Items that are breakable, likely to leak or are heavy, should be removed and packed separately. Please note that furniture is not designed to be transported with goods inside, this may result in damage.
Fill luggage and duffle bags with clothing, sheets, towels, and paper goods. Even for local moves you'll be able to quickly spot your navy suitcase holding your favourite jeans, whereas "Box #11" might remain elusive for days.
